Peril’s Past ~A Review~

By Rebecca Hill

Good evening, dear readers!

This has been a very busy year, but full of some fantastic books as well. I recently read Peril’s Past, and would love to share some thoughts with you (spoiler free) on it. I listened to this one on audiobook, and thoroughly enjoyed it! I hope you will as well.

Peril’s Past:

With romance, intrigue, twists, and turns around every corner, readers will be on the edge of their seats until the very end of this modern Scottish mystery with a dash of ghostly history. Liza Ramsay is career-minded and driven. She has no interest in inheriting an ancient estate in Scotland. But when she finds herself at a personal and professional crossroads, a summons directly from the chief of a prominent clan in the Scottish Lowlands suddenly becomes more than just a curiosity. It becomes an escape.

When Liza arrives at the imposing Ramsay castle and its sweeping grounds, she’s thrown into an investigation of the death of a young local boy, along with a host of characters who all have motivations for murder. Even the castle’s ghostly inhabitants may or may not be intent upon creating deadly mischief.

As the deaths multiply and the castle’s mysteries are revealed, Liza uncovers the secrets of both the living and the dead. And with time running out and a killer on the loose, Liza is in a race against time to make a decision about her future…before she’s the next victim and the Ramsay castle is lost forever.

My Review of Peril’s Past:

There are so many different aspects to this book – and many of them are very relatable. First, I want to start with a bit of a warning. When you start this book, you might think it moves a bit slowly. However, (and no spoilers here), you are going to want to pay attention to some of the goings on in the first pages. It may just give you a boost in other places.

Okay, now, for the book itself. I really enjoyed this one! While I stated, It has a bit of a slow burn at the start, but man, if I did not finish in one sitting. There are many elements that will speak to different age groups, and there is enough of a draw, that I really will need to read the second book.

There were a few things that felt incomplete, but as this is the first book in an upcoming series, I am sure that where I felt loose ends, will be addressed in subsequent books.

Finally, I enjoyed the thriller, suspense, romance mix. Which is really saying something – I don’t usually enjoy romancey things, but this was so well done, and woven into the story naturally.

Great read, and look forward to more from this author.

I purchased an audio version of this book, and provide my review based on that. This review was also posted on Amazon.
