The rain stopped falling, and the green withered. Now water is the global currency, and one power controls it all…..
The world as we know it no longer exists. The lushness we have grown accustomed to is gone. Now all that is left are barren wastelands, small communities, and one power that oversees the water supply. It is the life that Enora has known. It is normal. However, history teaches about the excess that was before and the vast waste of resources. The DMC, or the Drought Mitigation Corporation, oversees the water supply, paying people in water credits for their work. While they have sufficient food, they are not allowed to grow anything or keep to much water in their home. Doing so could get someone in a lot of trouble.
Enora is recruited to the DMC right out of high school. She is smart with an aptitude for learning. One of her best friends is a high ranking official for the company. But as Enora delves deeper into the workings of her job and gets to know her partner Springer, she discovers that there is a lot more to this company that one imagined. There is something bigger at play, and Enora is not sure how much longer she can continue on the path that she is walking…
My Ramblings About The Book
Oh my goodness! Can we say SUSPENSE? You didn’t think I was going to give you the plot of the book, did you? I have to leave you something to discover on your own. Using the breadcrumbs above, you have to discover the mystery for yourself and work through the DMC and their inner workings. To say that this book left me wanting more is an understatement. Book two is going to have to happen soon! I just HAVE to know what is going to happen next! (Did I get you excited there, thinking I was going to give it away?? NOPE!).
This is one of the best books that I have read this year by far. While you might think this is another, “oh woe is me, my life sucks” by a teenage girl book – you would be mistaken. Think 1984. That book was one that made you think just a bit! However, while this book is going to exercise your mind, it is going to give your imagination one heck of a workout! I promise you will be in overdrive trying to read as fast as you can to discover…
Well, that is where I am going to leave you. GET THIS BOOK! For real. Now. Use it for a read-aloud with your teens – or selfishly hoard it for yourself, and then maybe share with others. Either way, this is one book that needs to be on your TBR list, like, yesterday!
